On Saturday she'll be 3!!!

I swear it wasn't that long ago you were all about sleeping and nursing and waking and wailing! I mean, you did have unusually sophisticated taste in music from the first time we heard B.B. King on the radio, i think you were two weeks old, but still... Now you have six favorite colors--mainly purple--you correct me when I make mistakes reading bedtime stories, I've heard you count to 37, albeit skipping a few numbers between sixteen and eleventeen, you ride a bike with training wheels, and every few days you insist that you're a unicorn. how did this happen so fast? how did we get so lucky?

it's been a wonderful 1093 days since you were so small...

What They Learn in School These Days

Transcript of conversation between Shalvah and Nahanni today. This is verbatim.

Shalvah: Let's play zombies.

Nahanni: Where did you learn about zombies?

S: On the deck at school.

N: Who talked about zombies?

S: Nori and Holden and John.

N: What did they say about zombies?

S: Zombies are relaxed from lions.

N: Oh really?

S: Yes. Zombies are relaxed from lions. Zombies always lie down. Zombies scream, zombies run around, zombies roar, zombies shout. Zombies lie down with lions and tigers.

N: Oh.

Later on, Emma came home, so Shalvah explained about zombies a second time.

S: Zombies scream, zombies run, zombies shout, zombies nap.

N: That's what zombies do, but what are zombies? What do they look like?

S: They look like clams.

These people are experts on zombies...
